Leib Sutcher is a member of LPI’s Educator Quality Team. He is co-author of the Institute’s January 2015 report, Addressing California’s Emerging Teacher Shortage, and a report on the national teacher shortage, A Coming Crisis in Teaching? Teacher Supply, Demand, and Shortages in the U.S.

While in college, Sutcher worked as a researcher and tutor at the Quantitative Analysis Center, teaching students and assisting professors in advanced statistical techniques. In addition, he ran his own science classroom in a summer school program for Oakland public school students and has designed curricula related to education policy, pedagogy and the American Civil Rights movement in partnership with Berkeley High School.

Sutcher received a B.A. from Wesleyan University in Economics with a concentration in Education.

    Advancing Equity Through Deeper Learning

    This project brings together researchers, civil rights leaders, policymakers, and practitioners to advance understanding and develop policies that leverage deeper learning as a pathway toward educational equity. Through strategic research and shared-learning opportunities, LPI and partners are creating a broader community of actively engaged and knowledgeable equity advocates for deeper learning and building awareness about how high-leverage deeper learning practices can be scaled up. Strategic communications play a critical role in this effort, by promoting powerful examples and advancing a shared message and vision for deeper learning.
