Roman Stearns

Senior Advisor and Practitioner-in-Residence

Roman Stearns is a member of LPI’s Deeper Learning team where he works with the California Performance Assessment Collaborative (CPAC) and the Reimagining College Access (RCA) initiatives to promote performance assessments as a driver for educational transformation.

Stearns operates from a deep conviction that our youth deserve an education that fosters the qualities and skills needed to advance the U.S. toward a sustainable future. For more than 30 years he has worked in multiple settings—school, district, county office of education, university system administration, and educational nonprofit—directing large-scale education transformation projects designed to improve equity and access for those furthest from opportunity and promote student readiness for success in college, career, and life.

Stearns holds a Master’s degree in Education from Stanford University, a B.S. in Adolescent Development from Cornell University, and a professional administrative credential from California State University.

    California Performance Assessment Collaborative

    The California Performance Assessment Collaborative represents educators, policymakers, and researchers who are working to study and advance the use of authentic approaches to assessment, such as presentations, projects, and portfolios, which require students to demonstrate applied knowledge of content and use of 21st century skills. The lessons captured and documented from this work will inform educators seeking to implement performance assessments, as well as policymakers who are developing next-generation assessment and accountability policies.
