Sean Tanner is a Senior Researcher on the Early Childhood Learning and the Equitable Resources and Access teams. He is a co-author of the research brief, Money and Freedom: The Impact of California’s School Finance Reform. This study of California’s recent major school finance reform, the Local Control Funding Formula, is among the first to provide evidence of LCFF’s impacts on student outcomes. His research focuses on the impact of pre-k through 12 policies (i.e., accountability and school finance reform) on educational and socioeconomic inequality, particularly for educationally disadvantaged students. He also maintains an interest in methods of causal inference as they relate specifically to education policy knowledge.

Tanner received his Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley.
