Liz Simons is the Chair of the Heising-Simons Foundation’s board of directors. A former teacher who worked in Spanish-bilingual and English as a second language classrooms, she subsequently founded Stretch to Kindergarten, a spring–summer early childhood education program. She currently serves on the Leadership Council of Too Small to Fail; the advisory council for Stanford University’s Graduate School of Education; and on the boards of directors for the Marshall Project, the Foundation for a Just Society, and Math for America. She volunteers at The Beat Within (a magazine by and for incarcerated youth) and as a storyteller in a transitional kindergarten class.

Simons earned an M.A. in Education from Stanford University and a B.A. in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley.
