Researchers and policymakers discussed California’s Local Control Funding Formula, which—10 years after implementation—has dramatically changed the landscape of education funding and accountability in the state.

While every state has unique needs and different approaches to funding education, state policymakers face similar challenges, including declining student enrollment, the needs of different student populations, instability in state budgets, and the reduction of federal funds, and can learn from other states’ approaches.
