Lee S. Shulman

In Loving Memory of Lee Shulman (1938-2024), via the Stanford Report.
Lee S. Shulman served as Senior Fellow in Residence at the Learning Policy Institute. He was also the Charles E. Ducommun Professor of Teaching and Teacher Education Emeritus at the Stanford Graduate School of Education, President Emeritus of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, past president of the American Educational Research Association and a founder and past Co-director of the Institute for Research on Teaching at Michigan State University. His research focused on teaching and the construct of pedagogical content knowledge. Among his many recognitions is the AERA Award for Distinguished Contributors to Educational Research; the Teachers College Medal; the Grawemeyer Award in Education for his book The Wisdom of Practice: Essays on Teaching, Learning and Learning to Teach; and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.
